Root Canal Treatment in Rock Hill, Fort Mill SC
Root canal treatment is required when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. The pulp inside the tooth can become infected with bacteria because of a severe, untreated cavity. In order to save the tooth, Dr. Seth removes the pulp (living tissue), nerves and any decay. The resulting space is filled with medicated, dental materials, which restores tooth’s functionality.
At our Riverwalk Smile Dentistry, we do Root Canal to save a tooth that otherwise would have to be removed. Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problems is the solution. It is important to realize that extracting (pulling) a tooth will ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth over period of time.
Most patients experience little or no discomfort or pain, and enjoy a restored tooth that can last almost as long as its healthy original.
What does root canal therapy involve? Procedure entails one or more appointments. While the tooth is anesthetized, we secure a rubber dam around the tooth to keep it dry. Then, our dentist will drill a small hole through the top of the tooth and into the inner chamber to make an access. A series of root canal files are placed into the opening, one at a time, removing the pulp, cleansing the canals. Dr. Seth fill in permanent elastic material and medication designed to prevent infection in cleansed chamber and canals. This will protect the tooth and prevent it from breaking, and restore it to its full function. The patient will be given care instructions after each appointment.
